I have been noticing a little theme when I coach people or when I engage in casual conversations. It goes like this: "What do you want to create in your life?" Response: "I want the love of my life to come in." Then what usually follows is, "But first, I have to clear the belief that I am not lovable or for heaven's sake how will someone else love me," OR "I have to get my life in order," OR "I need to lose 'X' amount of weight."

This is nothing but a distraction. Instead of focusing on the now and sending positive images of what you want into the future, the attention goes into processing the past and further away from bringing in the love of your life.

To Process or Not to Process
by Bridget Engel

You create what you focus on. If you are continuously processing, then this is what you will experience in your life - more processing. It is far better to say, "I am bringing in the love of my life" and then go about starting to sense how wonderful you will feel with this new person. Start focusing on all of the fun and fulfillment you will be sharing together. The more you focus on what you want, the more the past naturally dies away without you having to process it.

Imagine it this way: You are filling out an order form and sending it in. In order to send it in, you don't need to go through all of your old archives. You just send it.

Processing is not to be confused with not acknowledging a trauma, a thought pattern of fear, or owning your feelings in this current moment. It's important to name and fully own what's up in your life, period. For example, when you name "I am angry because...." and feel it fully, the emotion dissolves. Then you place your attention on what you want - maybe it's to feel more peace or to put a boundary in place. This puts you in your power and your focus onto solutions.

If you find yourself continuously talking about old experiences as if they are your current reality or in the "I must process/clear this first in order to have what I want...." mindset, then be aware that you are playing the game of the victim and not the game of the creator. I am not knocking either choice - it's all life experience. But if you choose the game of the victim, then claim it consciously.

Here are some questions to put you back in your power and move out of old situations:

What am I getting out of this situation?

What is it costing me?

When will I let this go?

What do I really want?

What I am willing to fully commit to?

Another great solution is to surrender the entire situation to your Divine Guidance, as your higher self always has the best solutions. When you surrender, you let go of the situation emotionally. Often you will come to this point after you have tried everything else and it's your last ditch attempt. I recommend trying this as your first approach and notice what happens.
